Pay for direction, not for voices

No. Free is a one-time pot of 4,500 characters — about five minutes of finished audio — which is enough to produce a complete short scene and hear what the tool does with your own script. Once it is spent, a paid plan is what refills it. Exports on Free are licensed for personal, non-commercial use.

Because it is a bad paywall. Gating voices makes free users produce worse work, which makes them less likely to pay, and it punishes exactly the casting variety that makes multi-voice audio worth doing. What we charge for is how much finished audio you take away, and the controls that serious production needs — cast size, per-line pace, per-line emotion, subtitles and stems.

Characters, counted when you download. Each export of a project counts every character in its script, and exporting the same project again counts them again; subtitle files do not count. The minute figures on each plan are estimates for English dialogue — languages that pack more speech into each character go further, with Chinese, Japanese and Korean getting roughly two to three times as many minutes from the same credits. Generating and previewing lines does not use credits; it has its own limit per 24 hours, shown in the table above. In practice: one project per episode or chapter, and export when it is final.

Downloads stop until your credits reset at the start of the next month — on Free, whose credits are a one-time pot, until you move to a paid plan. You can keep generating and listening within your daily limit, and nothing in your projects is deleted.

When payments are live, yes, within the first two weeks of a paid period. We would rather refund someone who tried it and found it did not fit than keep the money and the bad review.
